STEP 1 · NO WEBSITE YET
Plenty of good Jamaican businesses have no website and a full order book. They are findable anyway, because they did the free things properly. Here is the honest version of what works without a site, and the point at which not having one starts costing you money.
1. Your Google Business Profile is your homepage for now
When someone searches "nail tech in Portmore", Google shows profiles, not websites. Claim yours, complete every field, add ten photos, and collect reviews. The profile has a "website" field — put your directory page or Instagram there so the click goes somewhere real.
2. A directory page is a real page
Your free page on the Jamaica Business Directory is an actual web page with your name, description, parish and link, on a site Google already trusts. It is the page you give out when someone asks "you have a website?" — and it shows up inside the guides for your industry. Two minutes to submit, live in a day.
3. WhatsApp Business with a catalog
Your catalog is your menu, your price list and your shop. Fill it in once with photos and prices. Add an away message, and quick replies for "how much", "where are you" and "how do I pay". People forward catalogs; that is free distribution.
4. One post of real work a day
Not a logo, not a quote graphic — the cake, the install, the lesson, the car being detailed. Thirty days of that on your WhatsApp status and one platform (Instagram or TikTok) is a portfolio customers trust more than any website.
5. Say the town and parish everywhere
Searches in Jamaica are local: "plumber Mandeville", "catering St. Ann". Put the town and parish in your profile description, your directory listing, your Instagram bio and your captions. Then get on your parish page.
- You answer the same five questions ten times a day.
- You double-book, or chase deposits and balances every week.
- A bigger customer asks for "the website" before they commit.
- You want to take card payments, bookings or orders while you sleep.
- Your competitor with a worse product shows up above you.
When two or three of those are true, a turnkey website is J$35,000 to build with booking or ordering software, hosting and support on a plan from J$4,500 a month — and it goes live in about a week. Until then, the five free steps above are the job.

Frequently asked
Can I rank on Google without a website?
Your Google Business Profile ranks in the map results without a website. For regular search results you need a page somewhere — a directory page counts.
Is a free website builder a good idea in the meantime?
A free builder page with ads and a long address rarely helps. A complete Google profile plus a directory page does more and costs nothing.
How do I take payments without a website?
Bank transfer with a confirmed screenshot, Lynk for small amounts, cash on pickup. Confirm in your banking app before you release goods. Our payments guide covers every option.
When should I get the website?
When the free steps are working and you are losing time or customers to the lack of one — usually once the first ten customers are paying.
