"Can I take Visa on my website?" is the most common question we get from Jamaican businesses — and the answer has quietly become yes. Here is how Scotiabank's online card facility works and what to prepare.
How the hosted page works
The customer taps Pay on your site. Your system builds a signed request (amount, currency, order reference) and redirects to Scotiabank's page. After 3-D Secure the customer is returned to you, and — separately — Scotiabank notifies your server with the outcome. Your system trusts the server notification, verifies it, records the payment once, and shows the customer the receipt. That "verify on the server, record once" rule is why a closed browser tab never loses a payment or creates a duplicate.
What the application needs
- Business registration and TRN; the business bank account.
- A live website with clear product or service descriptions, prices, terms, refund policy and contact details.
- Expected monthly volume and average ticket size.
- A description of your delivery or fulfilment process.
Allow several weeks; a website that already looks like a real business shortens it.
