Why one salon in May Pen gets the calls and the one next door doesn't — the three things Google scores, in plain English.
When someone types 'salon May Pen', Google scores every business on relevance (do you clearly do this thing, here?), distance (how close are you to the searcher?), and prominence (does the internet think you're real and good — reviews, mentions, a website that answers questions?). You can't move your shop, but you control the other two completely.
The three businesses in the map box get most of the calls. Getting there is mostly a Business Profile game (lessons 2–5). The blue-link list below it is mostly a website game (lesson 6). Do both and you appear twice.
'Is this business real, open, and the right one for this person?' Every lesson from here is about answering that question louder than the shop next door.
Search your business type + your town on your phone. Write down who's in the map box and one thing each of them has that you don't (photos? reviews? a website?).
We run this exact routine for Jamaican businesses: Google Business Profile management J$10,000/mo — photos, posts, reviews, Q&A, monthly numbers. Pair it with a smart website from J$35,000 + plan and appear in the map box and the list.
