🤝 How to Choose a Web Developer You Won't Regret

We rescue websites for a living — which means we've seen every way choosing the wrong developer goes bad. The pattern is predictable, and so is the protection. Ask these before you pay anyone (including us).

The 10 questions

1. "Will the domain and hosting be in MY name?" The only acceptable answer is yes. This single question prevents the worst outcome — read our developer-disappeared guide to see what happens otherwise.

2. "What's the total price, fixed, in writing?" Vague estimates grow. Fixed quotes don't.

3. "What exactly is included?" Pages, mobile version, contact forms, Google submission — get the list.

4. "How long, and what happens if it runs late?" A pro gives a date and a process, not "soon."

5. "Can I see three live sites you built — and may I contact one owner?" Portfolios can be borrowed; a phone call can't.

6. "Who updates the site after launch, and what does that cost?" Surprise maintenance pricing is a classic trap.

7. "Will I get all my logins?" Domain, hosting, CMS — in writing, at handover.

8. "What do you need from me, and by when?" Good developers manage YOU too — that's a green flag.

9. "How do we communicate, and how fast do you reply?" Slow replies during the SALE never speed up after payment.

10. "What happens if we stop working together?" The graceful-exit answer tells you everything about their character.

Red flags that predict disappearance

Payment only in full upfront in cash · everything registered under their accounts · no business name, reviews or fixed address · prices wildly below everyone else · "don't worry about the technical stuff." Any two of these together — walk.

Green flags

Published prices. A public work queue or portfolio with reachable clients. Deposit + balance structure. Your name on your own domain. Answers questions in plain language without making you feel small.
