With hosting access, an admin password can be reset at the database level, or a new admin created — a routine job for a professional. No hosting access? Recover the hosting account first (billing email + payment proof), or go up another level to the domain.

Wix / Shopify / Squarespace

These are account-based: their support teams have real ownership-recovery processes — business documents, payment history, and the original email domain all help. If an ex-employee owns the account, ask support about transfer procedures rather than starting a war.

The hostile-gatekeeper situation

Ex-developer or ex-partner holding access hostage? Stay calm and businesslike in writing, secure the domain first (it's your leverage), and let a third party handle the technical transfer — emotion makes these recoveries slower.
