Every Jamaican business owner has been told to "post more". Most have tried, gone quiet, and concluded social media does not work for them. It does — but it is a job with rules, and the rules here are a little different from the US advice you read.
Where Jamaicans actually are
Instagram and Facebook for almost every business, TikTok for food, beauty, fashion, events and anything with a personality, LinkedIn for professional firms and B2B, YouTube for how-to and tours. And WhatsApp underneath all of it — most sales that start on Instagram close in a chat.
What a post has to do
- Show the real thing. The braids you did today, the car on the lot, the plate going out. Stock images and quote graphics are invisible.
- Carry a price or a starting price. "DM for price" loses half the buyers.
- Give one reason to message now. A slot, a batch, a date, an offer.
- Land somewhere that converts. WhatsApp catalogue, a page with prices and a button, a booking link.

What it costs in Jamaica
Freelancers: J$10,000–20,000 a month for posting only, usually without replies or reporting. Agencies and managers: J$25,000–60,000 depending on platforms, posts and video. Our published packages are Starter J$25,000 (two platforms, 8 posts, replies, monthly report) and Growth J$35,000 (three platforms, 16 posts, Reels, weekly report). Ads are separate: J$25,000 management plus the budget you pay Meta.
What ads add, and when
Ads amplify a page that already converts. Run them when the organic posts bring messages and you want more of the same; do not run them to a page with no prices and a DM that goes unanswered. Facebook and Instagram ads for Jamaican businesses.
The numbers that matter
Reach tells you if people saw it. Messages, link taps, calls and bookings tell you if it worked. A post with 40 likes and 6 WhatsApp messages beats one with 400 likes and none. Ask any manager you hire for those four numbers every month; if they only show followers, keep looking.
- Write down ten things customers ask you every week; each is a post.
- Take 20 phone photos of real work in daylight.
- Put the price in the caption and the WhatsApp link in the bio.
- Reply to every DM within the hour for one week and count the sales.

Frequently asked
Does social media marketing work for small businesses in Jamaica?
Yes, when the posts show real work with prices and lead to WhatsApp. It does not work as "posting for presence" with no plan and no replies.
How many posts a week does a Jamaican business need?
Two to four good ones beat daily filler. Consistency over a month matters more than volume in a week.
Should I hire a manager or do it myself?
Do it yourself until the posting is the thing you keep skipping. The moment it is costing you customers, J$25,000 a month is cheaper than the silence.
Can you guarantee results?
No, and nobody honest can. We promise the work and show the numbers.
